Fenninger won the last World Cup giant slalom race, held over two months ago in Lienz on 28 December. With the win today she reduces the gap to 54 points between her and the giant slalom leader Jessica Lindell-Vikarby who finished 6th today, with two giant slalom races remaining.
"I didn't show my best skiing in the first run", commented Fenninger at the press conference. "I am just happy that my performance in the second run was good enough for the victory (...). Considering the warm weather conditions we're having here, the track was good. In the second run, the course was very fast and not easy. I prefer that kind of course set".
In 8th position after the first run, Anemone Marmottan landed her first ever World Cup podium. “I can't believe it", she said. "I just got my first podium and still can't realise what's going on. I am not going to celebrate because another GS awaits us tomorrow and I give it all to win that one".
For the first time on the podium as well, Eva-Maria Brem skied close to the limit to clock the best time of the second run. "It's my best day as a ski racer so far", said the 25-year-old. "My first run was solid but I knew I could do more. In the second run I was on the limit from top to bottom. That's the way to ski fast and I will try to duplicate that tomorrow. When I got to the finish I thought it could be the day and when I saw Nadia and Tina finishing behind me I just could hold my tears of joy".
Lara Gut made her 8th season podium and was really happy to share the third spot. "It's better than being fourth", she said laughing. "It's a bit strange to race in these conditions here. When we come here it's usually winter with a lot of snow. Today was like spring. It's overall a really good performance for me".
