Freestyle Premiere at Suomu

FIS Freestyle World Cup season 2009-2010 will be opened at Suomu. On December 12th Suomu will host the international top level mogul event for both ladies and men. From this series of competitions Events In Suomu Oy, Ski Sport Finland and Suomutunturi Ski Resort have put together an event called Freestyle Premiere 2009.
Opening ceremonies for FIS Freestyle World Cup Mogul Opening will be held on Friday 11th. There will be both athletes and great artists on stage."After official speeches we will have a great show with darkness, lights and excellent artists", promises Side event producer Kari Väänänen.
International Ski Federation (FIS) has confirmed that Suomu will host Freestyle World Cup events until 2013. Freestyle Race Director Joe Fitzgerald is very confident that the organising committee of Freestyle Premiere will succeed.
"Slope, schedule and organisation. Those are the key points for successful event. I count on this organisation; Finns are extremely good of organising competitions. Schedule is already done and working. They have still some work to do with the slope, but I’m not worried about it when work is already started", Fitzgerald said when visiting Suomu in the beginning of October.
Ski Sport Finland, one of the organisers, wants to succeed as host but with its mogul skiers as well. Finnish Freestyle Team was training in Argentina and Middle Europe before snow fell down in Finland. Last season Tapio Luusua won two medals in FIS Freestyle World Championships in Inawashiro Japan.
Starting in the mid-1960s, Suomu’s skiing history is world renowned. The grandfather of Freestyle, the HotDog Ski, came to Finland in the 1970s and in 1989 Suomu hosted Finland’s first Freestyle World Cup competition.
Although the mogul course has kept its place in Suomu Ski Resort for all these past years, some renewals needed to be done before Freestyle Premiere. Slope has now a new profile which meets the new standard and safety rules. New lightning will be built as well. The finish line on the mogul course is actually on the the arctic circle!!
