From 27 – 29 March 2009, the legendary Allalin Rennen will be held for the 27th time, together with the spectacular 6th Glacier Bike. DownhillSkiers, snowboarders and bikers meet again in the glacier village of Saas-Fee.
The Allalin Rennen are definitely amongst the most successful and largest events in the glacier village. Even after a quarter of a century, the exciting races still fill both young and old with enthusiasm. The start is at an altitude of 3,600 metres (bikers: 3,500), surrounded by a fantastic panorama and 13 fourthousand-metre-high peaks. From here skiers, snowboarders and daredevil bikers of all levels of ability will once again hurl themselves down the 9-kilometre descent, mastering the altitude difference of 1,800 metres during a lightening-quick descent and finally reaching the finish line at the Kalbermatten sports ground in Saas-Fee. On some sections of the course, speeds of up to 130 km/h can be reached, as for example on the legendary Kanonenrohr (Barrel of a Gun).
The Olympic ideal – "It is more important to take part than it is to win" – is still adhered to in Saas-Fee. The area around the finish line at the sports field is like one big festive cabin, inviting racers and spectators to enjoy a convivial party atmosphere. On Friday, musical entertainment will be provided by the solo entertainer Walter Keller from Grächen, and on Saturday the "Schneehuhnjäger" duo from Germany will take the stage.
