Chamonix Tourist Office has been awarded ISO-14001 Environment Management Certification

The Chamonix Tourist Information Office have been granted ISO 14001 Environment Management Certification after a multistage auditing process carried out over a period of 8 months.

An Environmental Management System (EMS) meeting the requirements of ISO 14001:2004 is a management tool enabling an organization to:
  • identify and control the environmental impact of its activities
  • improve its environmental performance continually
  • implement a systematic approach to setting environmental objectives and targets, to achieving these and to demonstrating that they have been achieved.

"By introducing in a voluntary manner a System of Environmental Management, the Tourist Office of Chamonix Mont-Blanc aims to be a real force for implementing the development of sustainable tourism and for encouraging all the main players to follow this path (...) Chamonix Mont-Blanc Tourist Office, undertake to put into practice all the provisions of our system of management and to respect the legal requirements in environmental matters which relate to our activities, in order to achieve together the objectives of a continual reduction in our impact on the environment, and by example, to motivate those who come to Chamonix to follow this course" Bernard Prud'Homme, Director of the Tourist Office, said.
Florence Petit is the one responsible to coordinate the efforts for the correct functioning of the Environmental Management System.
Recently the Tourist Office has launched a blog (chamonixgoesgreen.org) to promote sustainable and responsible tourism in Chamonix.
